This book really is specifically a family history for the author to preserve important family lineage memories for future generations of their family. For that reason it is both good and bad. Good for the importance of presenting photos and documents but less good for being of general value to non family members. I really had hoped I could read a story of the family history presented as a chronological account. Unfortunately for that aim, the book is largely a presentation of correspondences between the author and various research channels and photos of family.What I thought the book lacked was a continual story that invested me in their journey. I personally found all of the many letters and documents interesting for their own sake, but lacking in as far as the story of the family and telling me about the people involved.
There were a few small personal accounts and a couple of generally interesting German correspondences of the time, but generally I was disappointed in the overall presentation of anything other than a family history collection.

Badly written, only can be any use for a family member! Just a waste of time to publish!
I ordered this on my kindle an there just wasn't a story maybe in the book form it's better. I was disappointed
Wasn't written as well as I thought it would be. Didn't even get through the first chapter. I'm sure it is a compelling story but the writing did not grasp my attention.
It is an important story of non fiction, informative and readable.
I enjoyed the book a great deal. I had anscestors who were put in the gas chambers, a distance aunt and uncle,I do have pictures of them.
I own over 900 Holocaust books and there are about
500 more Holocaust books that I want to buy and read.
This book was very exciting to read, because I have
searched for lost ancestors myself, but I would not
have bought it if I knew there wasn't a 'Holocaust Story'
in the book. There were too many papers in the book
that would only be valuable to the Hanauer family members.
This is a true story of one family separated in a consentration camp. How some family members were killed and how horrible the life was of the one that lived. The work they were forced to do was backbreaking, the days long, with very little food to sustain him.When he was finely freed, he had no home to go to as it was lived in by someone else. Sad, but true. We can't let that happen again.
